“Have a Go” month is all about celebrating lifelong learning and those that strive to further their careers or better equip themselves with new skills as well as those special people who teach.

With FJ&B growing as a company, we believe that it’s right to focus on the foundations of what makes a great company, and we know that it’s all about people. Not simply those that we employ, but those we choose to work with, those who have helped us along the way, and those we hope to engage with in the future. Celebrating Pride month in June, we changed our company email logos and this certainly sparked some conversations, however, one of our freelance consultants challenged us to go further and so slowly but surely we are.

“Have a Go” month is all about celebrating lifelong learning and those that strive to further their careers or better equip themselves with new skills as well as those special people who teach. Having read the stories of some of those people who have used their new skills to transform their lives or the lives of others was truly inspiring. But what could we do as a small, yet eager company, do to get more involved?

Ahead of the start of our “Have a Go” awareness month, August saw us have our first work experience person. Starting with us the day after he got his A-level results, Ethan was only supposed to be with us for 2 weeks but as we enjoyed his company so much, we invited him to stick around for a little longer. We loved having Ethan with us and look forward to welcoming more work experience candidates in the future. It’s worth mentioning that Ethan did fantastically in his A-levels and so congratulations are in order.

As I write this piece, staff at FJ&B are in the middle of a step-counter competition with the aim to encourage everyone where they can, to get out and take a walk (even if the summer weather hasn’t been particularly spectacular) or even just a brief lap of the office space (there’s obviously a prize in it for the winner too). To continue with this wellbeing initiative and to create an opportunity to learn a skill for life, FJ&B are offering all employees the opportunity to take part in an online healthy cooking class. We will be sure to upload the pictures from the “creations” on our website.

Finally, we are encouraging the staff at FJ&B if they can find the opportunity to write to an old mentor. Taking the time to put pen to paper or fingers to keys could be a rather significant gesture for those that help others to learn. We feel it's important to thank those that have helped us as individuals and as a company to grow. If it encourages them to continue to pass on their knowledge and nurture skills in others so that they, in turn, transform their lives and those around them then it seems like something worth doing to us.
